Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that isn’t answered below, click here to send us a message!
Where/When do you train?
Our sessions run from 18:30 – 20:30. We train at St Matthews Church Hall in Newbottle on Mondays, and at Barley Mow Village Hall on Thursdays.
How much do classes cost?
Your first session is FREE! Following this classes are £5 per session and are paid for on the night on a pay-as-you-train basis. The only membership you need to pay is the British Judo Council Membership to ensure you’re covered by the BJC insurance policy.
How do I register with the BJC?
We will provide you with all the necessary BJC forms and even send them off for you. All you need to do is fill them in and provide payment. It really is a painfree process.
You can pay a reduced fee for a provisional BJC lisence which lasts 3-months, which is perfect until you decide if you want to continue practicing Judo.
The provisional license fee is deduced from the full BJC membership fee if you do wish to continue to full membership, and all BJC clubs use the same mebership. So you can use it if you need to move to another club. No commitments made!
What ages can participate?
We allow members from 6-years old up! This is the perfect age to let your child improve their physical capabilities and explore what they are capable of in a safe and controlled environment. There’s no maximum age limit. Our club owner didn’t start judo until his 30’s!
What do I need to wear?
We will provide you with a Gi (judo jacket) and belt. It’s best you wear long trousers that are comfortable and don’t have any zips or toggles.
Do I need any other equipment?
Nope! Just bring yourself and a bottle of water! Flip-flops or sliders are recommended as these will allow you to quickly transition on and off the mat when you need.
Can I bring a friend/parent to join in?
Definitely! Judo is a sport that requires a partner so having someone that is similar size to you is perfect for training!
Can I stay and Watch?
You’re free to come along and watch and ask questions before stepping onto the mat to train.
Parents are also free to stay and watch the training session. We have chairs at the side of the mat area for you to use.
